Inventory system suggestions

Ok here me out...

 

I want something like an inventory system to know how much beef we have left in our freezer. We purchase bulls and have them custom butchered, so we get large amounts of meat at one time, about 3 times a year. I want some way of keeping track of what we have left, so basically like how many pounds of ground beef, T-bone steaks, etc. I don't want to just use a spreadsheet because my father isn't able to read or write following a stroke he suffered, so I wanted something like a scanner or simple "checkout" almost so he could scan what we're using that night and it would be automatically subtracted. Any thoughts?

Not to get too deep in your dad's stroke... but can't he communicate somehow to someone who updates the spreadsheet?

 

Or is this for him to handle completely on his own?

Thanks for your reply! I plan to set it up and manage it, I just need him to be able to scan things out because he does some of our meal prep. He can read kinda but writing or typing is definitely out of the question. That's why I wanted the scanner so I could just have him scan it. Thanks for the suggestion!
