Okay, for several weeks now I have been tinkering and changing stuff to try to improve performance in my games. CoD: Warzone specifically.

Ever had one of those situations where you changed a couples things one time and then it fixed and you're really not sure what fixed it? Yea that happened to me about a week ago. We were running perfect. Ultra settings @ 1080p @ 190 FPS.

Then yesterday, I was having issues with running OBS and frames dropping excessively (going to chalk that up to needing more cores)

I go into Nvidia Control Panel and I get the welcome screen, I think to myself, hmmmm I never set this up???. I accept to TOA and all that. I changed ONE setting from default. Nvidia Low Latency Relax.... and BAM my issues are back. 50% GPU utilization and 99% CPU utilization. Go back into Nvidia Control Panel and turn it off, doesn't fix the issue... So I go to sleep.

This morning I used DDU to uninstall all my nvidia crap and reinstall it. I load up Warzone without touching Nvidia Control Panel and were fine. (see image for current utilization)

NOW.... most people would stop here... but not me. I want to know is it actually Nvidia Control Panel? Is it a specific setting that doesn't activate until you launch Nvidia Control Panel for the first time? Don't really know how to test this and find out without trail and erroring every setting combo in Nvidia Control Panel.

Any thoughts?

Thanks much, I know this want lengthy.

I've had these issues as well - ever since the last "major" 60GB update I think it was. There's been a few other smaller updates here and there. For me I think it started around the 6th of this month. I've noticed that there was the yellow symbol to the left of the screen with 3 squares, and I believe that referred to a packet burst, although my packet loss % always remained at 0% (according to the game's counter).

I felt the problem could have been GeForce Experience and it's auto-optimizer, but I could never confirm anything. Not only did I get the frame drops, but I also experienced constant game crashes, especially in the menus. There was a little "hack" that I found online that mostly helped calm down the huge frame drops, but the crashes continued. It required going to your Documents folder > Call of Duty Modern Warfare > Players, then opening up the adv_options.ini file and changing the VideoMemoryScale to a lower value, such as 0.65. Your mileage may vary.

I've tried the scan and repair feature and reinstalling the game. I finally caved last night and completely reinstalled Windows. I wasn't sure if it was a background process or GeForce Experience. This seemed to have completely fixed both of my issues so far, but I am kinda pissed I was ever presented with them in the first place.

I am running an RTX 3080 w/ i9-10900KF on an ASUS TUF Z490 PLUS MB with the game installed on an M.2 NVMe drive, so I am highly doubtful my HW was to blame.

Good luck and I hope you don't have to resort to a fresh install of your OS like I did. I sure know I will be following this thread to see if anyone else has had a similar experience and a better fix.

I left that part out... I'm sorry.

One of the things I did to fix the issue several week ago was a fresh windows install. Launching Nividia Control Panel (Not Geforce Experience) caused those issues to reoccur. So now I'm curious as to if one of the default settings on Nvidia Control Panel is causing our issues....

We also could be experiencing 2 totally different issues, I'm not getting ANY crashes at all. Just frames drop to like an average of 90 FPS and lows of 30-40 when I typically get around 190 FPS.

And when this issue happens, I can pull up afterburner and can see my GPU utilization is staying around 40-50% with CPU maxing out. So I think it has something to do with Nvidia Control Panels software modifying how my hardware is allocated.

You know, now that I think about it I do remember messing around in the Nvidia CP as well. I was there because I was experiencing some major screen tearing in CoD: BO CW, and while I was there I think I made an adjustment or two on MW. Actually I know I did, because I recall the game not showing up for me and I had to manually add modernwarfare.exe to the list.

As of now, using DDU and going into safemode, I reinstalled the Nvidia drivers.

Since then, I have not even OPENED Nvidia CP and it seems to be fixed. Now I'm scared to even open it. 🤣
