970 or 970 FX

Hi,

 

My friend has a FX6300 atm and a 970 motherboard. He is going to upgrade to a FX8350. Does he need a FX motherboard and what is the difference?

There's no 970FX.

 

You can run any FX CPU in a 9xx chipset board :)

That is the worst possible upgrade. You will not get much performance.

AFAIK, the only difference is SLI support, anyone correct me if I'm wrong

 

990FX that is, there is no such thing as 970FX
