right so I have had this issue for the last few months and its been getting on my nerves so I thought I would consult you guys on here for some tips on how to deal with this issue, In windows 8 my sound has literally stopped working for no apparent reason and I cant adjust the volume or anything and when it detects for the problem it says that I haven't plugged anything in, however I most definitely have. So I scoured the internet for answers and it seems the only decent answers were to buy a sound card with I did (asus xonar dgx) and the problem still persists but to a lesser extent I now sound in some applications such as my djing software and music production software and only a few games, Dont suppose any of you would know how to solve this issue, my guess would be to reinstall windows but what is your guys take on it

many thanks

Although I personally LOVE installing windows EVERY OTHER DAY xD You can try uninstalling and re-installing the latest audio driver to reduce hassle.

Another thing you can try is seeing if the sound device you are using works to begin with (you'd be surprised)

Second to last would be to re-install windows (I personally LOVE this option xD)

Last would be to get a sound card but you don't have to get something BIG, even something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Syba-SD-CM-UAUD-Adapter-C-Media-Chipset/dp/B001MSS6CS is good enough :D

I fix computers and computer accessories... sometimes... when I want to...

I mean we all love especially for me 3rd time running, right?

well this problem occurred when I was running on board sound, then to try and fix It i got a Asus xonar dgx and that only partially helped

I also tried the audio drivers and that did literally nothing, not a single thing

looks like its time to reinstall again, GREAT :'(

Oooooo a while ago now around september/october last year, I think

I recommend you change the motherboard, saves you the time and hassle (only if it fits your budget though :D)

Can you check if the services:

Windows Audio, and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder are running?

Did you check the sound card manufacture drivers if you have the latest drivers?

If you have, can you try the Windows default ones, by uninstalling the drivers, and restarting your system.
