Hey guys, just bought a second m.2 ssd for my pc but it doesnt detect it, neither in bios nor disk management. Mobo - msi z490 tomahawk, windows 10. I do not have any normal ssds or hdds in my pc. Thanks for any help ! Both of the m.2's are SSD ADATA XPG SX8200 PRO 1 TB M.2 2280

-bios updated

-Disk not detected in diskpart

PS. This m.2 ssd is basically a third one, i returned one because of the same reason (didnt show up etc.) i though it was damaged but looks like im doing something wrong.

Documentation for your motherboard:

Quote

2 x M.2 slots (Key M)
M2_1 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s, 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices 1
M2_2 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s, 2242/2260/2280 storage devices 2

1 SATA2 will be unavailable when installing M.2 SATA SSD in the M2_1 slot.
2 SATA5 & SATA6 will be unavailable when installing M.2 SATA/PCIe SSD in the M2_2 slot.

(Pertinent part bolded for emphasis) Would you happen to have any hard drives plugged into your SATA ports?  It indicates that it will prefer the m.2 slots, but the reverse might be true as well: if the SATA is there first, it won't detect the m.2 drive.

Nope, no satas or anything, just those two m.2s

😞

Have you moved the drive that your system does detect to the different ports to see if it remains detected?

Full system specs might be handy?

My original thought was that your second slot didn't support PCI-E m.2 drives, since this drive will only run in PCI-E, not SATA. But that doesn't seem to be the case, and even says in the manual both drives should run in PCI-E even if both slots are populated with these sorts of drives (sometimes will only run in SATA mode if slot one has a PCI-E drive in it)

I have an adata swordfish 2 tb that is having the same issues. It works in other devices, just not the Tomahawk Motherboard. I have an adata swordfish 1tb and it works fine in either slot as well. So it has to be the motherboard some how.

I HAD THIS ISSUE AND IT WAS KILLING ME TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT, BUT I THINK I FOUND THE SOLUTION GUYS. IT'S "MOST LIKELY" Not Showing Up Because the Drive Letter is Missing or Conflicting. Here's an article on what to do to get the problem solved.

I hope that helped, cheers guys.

M2_1 is not available in CPU mode when a 10th gen CPU is installed. You've set the M2_1 slot to chipset mode?
