Does memtest86 check for faulty memory? Also i have a 200 something gig ssd and a 1 tb hdd. The hdd is strictly drive storage and the ssd is for my os.

It does and it does it relatively quickly compared to older methods (hours instead of. Days) it can throw false negatives though so a clean bill of health from memtest doesn’t always mean memory isn’t the issue.

Okay so as stated my PC has been freezing. I thought it was because of having two GPU drivers, so I ended up using DDU and it was fine for 2 days. I just came back to my desktop being frozen (still able to see everything on it) and the mouse wouldn't move. I couldn't cycle the power with my physical power button I had to push and hold it to get a reset. My ram, cpu, mobo are all from older days. I assume something may be failing but I'm hoping for help pinpointing where that is. Thanks for the help.

EDIT:   This link takes you to my prior post with a bit more technical information on my PC and thoughts on the issue.

the traditional most common problem with machines of that finish for crash after boot is memory problems.  So memtest86 and maybe some old school single stick memory testing if that doesn’t find anything.

Looking at the old post it seems like the thing has been around a while.  Old high end machine that is now low end because it’s so old.   I notice storage wasn’t mentioned.  My first impulse before even messing with memory is a ground up refresh.  If it’s got a HDD (seems likely given the age) a small cheap SATAssd with the boot on it, and relegate the HDD to secondary storage.   This is partially because small SSDs are cheap and it speeds stuff up, but also it forces a full dump of everything.  Clean out the cruft.  Some has to have built up.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Cool, when I get home I'll be sure to give it a try. Gonna toss this up as solved for now, Thanks, dude.
