DIY tablet/computer

Hi all, I'm planning to build a DIY "tablet".

I play music, so printing and organizing music sheets is a bit too much work for me =]. So i want to build a tablet using a portable touchscreen monitor from amazon with Raspberry Pi or some other platform. Does anyone has experience doing this? I don't want to spend too much on an iPad or other tablet on the market because they are too small for what I need and out of my price range. I want something that is about 16in, the monitor i mentioned on Amazon is about 15.6 in, which is good. I reckon I could do this for $300 or less?

Thanks
