Very worrying random shutdown issue

No overclocks at all.

I have seen something like this with 5000 series Ryzen cpus. The bios for them is pretty unstable for the most part. Try different versions (which supports the cpu)

Hi all,

Just built a new rig and it's brilliant, other than the random shutdowns.

The machine just suddenly restarts, no warning, no bluescreen. They never seem to happen under load, mainly when idling. It's a high airflow case with good temperatures, even under load.

Specs are as follows:

  • Fractal Meshify XL
  • MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi
  • Ryzen 9 5950x (edited)
  • be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 CFM CPU Cooler
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) 3600mhz
  • Samsung 980 Pro 1TD SSD
  • Corsair RM850x
  • Windows 10 Home (64-bit)  Win 10 Home
  • GIGABYTE 3070 RTX Vision OC 8GB

There are errors with WHEA-Logger in the Event Viewer, which reads:

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor APIC ID: 6 (or sometimes 18)

I have tried:

  • Fully removing my graphics card driver and reinstalling
  • Updating my chipset drivers
  • Updating the BIOS
  • Updating Windows

AMD support asked me to send some dumps/diagnostics, but perhaps one of you guys can point me in the right direction?

Describe what happens? Total shutdown? BSOD? when what which?

I Use my knowledge as business owner and self taught technician aswell as an AI to help people. AI might be controversial but it actually works pretty well 90% of the time.

Have you overcloked anything? Sometimes bad oc can be stable at stress test but unstable at idle

Just found a newer (beta) BIOS was released a few days ago. I'll try updating to that.  Thanks for your help!
