tv not working with gpu

im getting my 144hz monitor in a few days and i tried using my new built pc with my old tv which has a hdmi and the tv said output source not supported, display n refresh rate sum like dat. would i have ror my mobo to arrive for me to even check if my parts r indtalled correctly
