IBM atomic memory and data storage testing

IBM just made the world's smallest movie which holds the Guinness World Record™.

It is called A Boy and His Atom. It's 1 min 34 sec clip

. The clip was made frame by frame using carbon monoxide molecules in a -260 degrees Celsius chamber. Using special tools they were able to move around 5000 atoms to make this clip.

But the really interesting thing about this is that we can now use atoms to do services like computation and data storage. Current magnetic storage uses small magnets made up of 1,000,000 atoms. But what these guys just found out how to do it with only 12 atoms! Imagine how much this would affect storage. Andreas Heinrich IBM Principal Investigator said that with this technology you can not only carry 2 movies on your iPhone but you can carry any movie that was ever produced basically!!
