FROM 10 YEARS AGO!

I would rather go out and buy a new one. In storage drives, I won't use old ones, especially if they are Hard Drives. And even more, you are mentioning your rig "new". So you expect it to last long and be reliable.

It should be a good investment to get a new one for reliability. Whom would you account for if your SSD suddenly fails?

Another thing to take you towards buying a new SSD is the new features. New SSDs obviously get faster, have encryption features and the list goes on.

I would strongly recommend you get a new one and not put your data at risk.

Also, you can use the SSD as some secondary storage in your PC for files which you consider "not important". After all, any SSD is faster than the best HDD in the market(at least according to what I think).

It's such a cop out answer because you could say that about basically anything, and it doesn't address the actual complaints. People use it as some kind of card they pull when they can't actually respond to the criticism raised but they still feel like they need to defend some company/person. If you don't like this thread then stop reading it. See how stupid it is? It's basically like telling someone "shut the fuck up". It's not a clever responsive, it doesn't address anything said, and it is rude.

MKBHD is but an Apple propagandist and fanboy. Take his videos with a grain of salt, especially about anything Apple. In his video titled "I Visited Apple's Secret iPhone Testing Labs!", he has shown that he makes no effort to fact check Apple's claims, and takes it at face value. I do not believe he can be trusted as an Reviewer/Influencer.

Totally disagree here. I have an SSD of that vintage (maybe even older) that's still working. It has 60+k working hours on it (yes, OS disk of a file-server) and still works fine.

So, the OP can save money and re-use his old SSD. Check SMART for the total number of working hours, if that's below 10k then you won't need a new one for years.

I take my words back then. You should check S.M.A.R.T for any bad signs as stated by @Dutch_Master.

Save your money and use the old drive. Remember that if you have proper backups of your data a drive failure should be no big deal as long as it isn't a mission critical machine.

As Dutch_Master said, run a SMART test and if there are no red flags its good to go.
