I have the RT-AX58U (call it main router) as my primary router connected to ISP modem. Firmware up to date and is set up in " wireless router mode"

The RT-AC66U B1 (call it access point) is hardwired to the above router, on latest firmware and set up as " AP / Ai mesh router in AP mode". Except for the router login it is all factory default (inc. factory default WiFi).

I'm trying to set up the Aimesh. In the main router under Network map the " find AImesh node"  doesn't find anything. The FAQ/help and google told me to make sure it is latest firmware, and factory-reset to default (which it is).

There are instructions on how to set them up via wiFi and they have to be close together. However, I have them hard-wired and like to use them hardwired. The Access point directly wired to the Main router should be even easier.

the access point in itself works. Meaning the PC connected to it can hav einternet and i can access the router via my PC (connected to main router). So i really don't know why it is so hard for aimesh to find it.

OK, I figured it out.

You need to set up the AImesh over Wifi with the node really close to the router. and you need to have the node reset and NOT login before at all or change the login (which it makes it do when you login the first time. it doesn't work over CAT.

so basically

- locate node next to the router

- power up

- push reset until it blinks and resets (that takes some minutes)

- do NOTHING lese to the node

- log into the router and search for the mesh node

- once established, you can move the node around and connect to router via CAT.
