Budget (including currency): $1-2k

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Handbrake, some gaming (mostly older titles), office work, F@H

Other details:

So a few months ago I upgraded my desktop workstation from an FX-8350 to a 3700X and am looking to kinda continue upgrading my setup to something a bit more professional with some cash left over from student loans (if I had any other cash flow/job offers/etc, I wouldn't even consider touching what's left over, but unfortunately not having any certs/degrees kinda keeps me frozen out of the job market).

I know I'm replacing/adding:

  • My ~10 year old Silverstone 750W with something that's actually fully modular to clean up the rats nest underneath the motherboard tray in my CM HAF XB EVO.
  • The case also only comes with 2 front fans and I'm considering populating all the fan mounts (HAF stands for "High AirFlow" after all, be a shame not to make use of it) with Noctuas if I can
  • A NH-U9S to keep all 8 cores nice and cool (or maybe the Fuma II as someone on the Discord suggested, but I kinda like the idea of an all Noctua cooled setup.)
  • Beyond the PSU and cooling, I'll be populating the 2x5.25 bays with a BR Burner + Card reader respectively.

With all that said, I'm not quite sure where to go from there...

  • I only have a 22" 1080p monitor (Acer S220HQL) and an old Dell 1907FP (only 1280x1024), so 2xQHD or 1x4K is tempting prospect, but damned expensive.
  • My desk is also an old IKEA particleboard tabletop that's starting to sag in the middle so that might need to be remedied before I can be comfortable sticking brand new 27+ inch monitors on it and moving my case up off my floor
  • I have a chair though I wouldn't exactly say its a particularly great office chair that my buddy found that someone else was tossing
  • The electrical in my house is a little flaky so I've toyed with the idea of a UPS, but I don't have a great idea of what VA/Wattage I'd need to be looking for for my purposes

TL;DR

What outside of computer components can the LMG crowd recommend upgrading in a general setup upgrade

Not sure what a holistic upgrade is, will have to look this up and get back to you.

For regular upgrading, we kind of need to know the rest of the specs to know what to upgrade, no?

You have $2k, monitor upgrades aren't that expensive.

If I had any other cash flow at the moment, I absolutely would, as it stands, this is what I've got. I'm going back to the local community college to grab some certifications just so that I have some kind of formal qualifications to put on a resume and hopefully land a job and y'know, have the money to do that. As it stands though my setup is pretty lackluster if not on the verge of falling apart (like the desk), so I'm trying to get out ahead of any potential issues now/soon before it becomes a major problem (e.g. broken/dead monitor/ drive/ desk/ chair/ etc.). I should also add that at least some of the cash will be going towards paying for other certs (maybe a couple CompTIA ones, maybe CCNA if it won't break the bank)
