Really depends on the requirements you have as Verne said.

As far as brands that I have used and like:

Keyboard, I've only used 1 mechanical keyboard and it is the Coolermaster Quickfire TK with blue switches and blue LEDs. it is a solid keyboard, looks great, I just never realized how much it would suck (for me) having delete and the arrow keys combined into the num pad. From what I've seen many of the more "economical" brands will keep the LED consistent with switch type (blue switch/blue LED, red switch/red LED, brown&black switch/white LED). Ducky keyboards are one that I can think of off the top of my head that offers a large variety of switch types and LED combinations, but they are pricey.

For the mouse I've used a Logitech G500 for a few years and I love it. It is meant for a palm grip, has a bit of ergonomics to it, contains a few thumb buttons and it fits very nicely in my hand, the adjustable weights are nice (I like a heavy mouse). I used to have an ambidexterous mouse and hand fatigue would be a real problem for me, haven't had that issue with the G500. Although at work there are several people that use fully ergonomically correct mice and it is the weirdest thing I've ever seen.http://www.thehumansolution.com/evoluent-wireless-vertical-mouse-vm4w.html

For a mouse pad I've used 2. One is a steel series brand one that is large and very skinny that I now use as a travel pad for my laptop. For my desktop I currently use this nice Rosewill pad that doesn't collect dust and nice and thick. But there are other options such as mats that are meant to cover the entire surface including the keyboard and mouse.

As an added bonus knowledge I care to share, not too long ago I was looking for a wrist rest as many KBs do not come with one and I type a lot. Someone on these forums here suggested the Grifiti brand of wrist rests and I can attest that they are fantastic.
