I need some advice for a tricky solution. I switched from Mac to Windows a year ago, got a Lenovo Legion that I hated, went back to 16inch MacBook Pro, couldn't GPU render due to AMD Radeon Card. The easiest solution would be a desktop, I know. But I am commuting and travelling constantly. So except for a super small ATX and a mobile monitor which would still be a pain to commute with I cannot go for a custom build desktop machine. I was planning on configuring my own laptop with PCSpecialist, but then considered the Gigabyte Aero 15 and MSI Creator 15 2020. But people told me they would never waste so much money on so much power in a laptop, because it could never use the power to the fullest and break. Now I only see one solution: Getting a Gaming Laptop which is cheaper, preferably 4k display and a good single thread power CPU for Animation and combine it with a eGPU and one of the upcoming RTX30XX cards whenever I want to render.

Would this combination make sense for a mobile 3D animation, render and video editing set up or will I have thermal issues? What's a better solution? What should be the optimum specs for the laptop in this combination?

Thank you!
