I have this dell latitude d630 that when i press the power button it shuts down almost immediately.

tried on board-diagnostics

and after diagnostics the it booted to windows but if i remove my finger it powers down. (the diagnostics seemed to give a good result, to do the on-board-diagnostics had to leave my finger on the power button for a very long time)

And also if i leave my finger on the power button, after the DELL logo i get 2 beeps and message saying: Can not determine the wattage of the AC adapter

the system will adjust to the current power... (something like that) it also said i can press F5 and the system

will ignore the message (that's what i pressed but i guess i won't see the message again..) The laptop used to have another AC adapter but how the cord was breaking had to put tape.

(will stop topic if the other AC adapter works with the laptop)

Tried removing the ram and putting it back on but no result. On the AC adapter the green light is on..

then tried contacting DELL support using the service tag but the warranty of the laptop has expired 9 years ago..

Could it be the power button? i dunno.

Could it be the AC adapter? i dunno!

(wrote all of that like an hour ago)

Update: Laptop powers on to windows and after a few minutes it shuts down.

From both of those, probably what I can see, your AC adapter's faulty. Probably either it's a good mechanism that the laptop used to protect itself.

Yes, of course, try another adapter.

Humor me, as you should do.

Ok i will try the other one i have.

Yeah it's weird imagine using your computer while having to press the power button.

Usually you might get the message i mentioned on a generic AC adapter but both AC adapters i have is genuine.

Thank you @dhannemon13
