Hi, I'm not able to turn on freesync with my actual gpu but I can get 144hz,

I know that I will get tearing if I game at 144 fps without freesync but will I get any tearing if I lock my in-game FPS to 60 and only use the 144hz out of games?

Before telling me to upgrade my GPU, I don't plan on upgrading it for now because I don't need to but I do need a new monitor and I would like it to be useable with my current GPU and be able to upgrade my pc in a future without having to change the monitor

Tearing is due to the monitor refreshing halfway through a drawn frame. Locking your FPS doesn't stop tearing without a technology to either sync to monitor to the GPU (FreeSync) or provide a buffer so fully rendered frames can be sent to the monitor at the right time (VSync).

There's not really any benefit to locking your FPS to 60FPS, I'd just leave it unlocked and run 144Hz. Tearing is less noticeable when running high frame rates on high Hz monitors than it is on lower.

I'd get the monitor and if you want, try locking the FPS and see how it works compared to leaving it unlocked. It sounds like you're planning on upgrading the GPU later anyway, so no reason to not get it if you ask me.
