Hi all,

I'm new to this forum but enjoy the channel and thought you guys on the may be able to shed some light on an annoying issue i'm having. Hope i've raised this correctly :D tried to put in as much detail as possible as no one likes a vague query!

In short, I'm getting an FPS drops roughly 8-10 seconds in some games such as GTA 5, project cars 2, Fifa 20. This drop causes a notiecable stutter (almost like it drops a frame). It seems to sit at a high FPS in these games but then drop down 7-10 fps every 8-10 seconds or so and that causes a noticeable jolt/stutter/frame drop.

I recently upgraded my GPU and Monitor setup and since then have had this issue. Its my first GSYNC/Freesync monitor (LG GL850). I had terrible screen tearing at first, which was resolved by enabling Vsync in each game but now i have this stutter/frame drop.

My GPU is a RTX 2070 wind force x2 and temps are good in mid 70'c, (came from a gtx 970 which i sold)
I cap my fps below my monitors refresh rate, around 140 fps on Rivatuner.

I also have installed MSI afterburner but have not changed anything on the program, left it as it was installed.

PC - Specs

- 8600k intel - stock MHZ with 280mm AIO

-Asus z370 mobo ATX

-Gigabyte rtx2070 8GB Windforce x2

-16GB DDR4 3200Mhz

All 4 of my GPU outputs are in use as follows.

-LG gl 850 144hz -  DP

-LG 27 IPS - 75hz - HDMI 2.0

-Yamaha AV receiver 60hz DP (set up as a monitor but used for audio).

-Sony 4k TV - DP 60Hz

I've tried

-Changing performance settings in NVCP and windows to high performance

-Gsync on and off on the monitor, enabled it to full screen and windows on NVCP

-Games from both my SSD and HDD both have the same issue so dont believe its I/O

-Page file set as automatic for all drives

-Mem test my ram

-No background programs open, ruled out antivirus/chrome/icue etc.

-Adjusted game settings up and down in terms of quality.

Any thoughts, help or ideas would be much appreciated :)

Thanks,
George

I tend to have the same issue, but ONLY on gta 5. Using a Vega 56, Ryzen 5 2600x and 16gb ddr4 3000. Interested in people's thoughts.

At me or quote me, I want to hear your opinion.

Hopefully anything I say is factually correct. Sorry for any mistakes in advanced.

my guess would be that it maybe could have something to do with what monitors use g-sync (if it's enabled) that used to cause problems for me.

Anything i've written between the * and * is not meant to be taken seriously.

keep in mind that helping with problems is hard if you aren't specific and detailed.

i'm also not a professional, (yet) so make sure to personally verify important information as i could be wrong.

Looks like either momentary thermal throttling or some random resource hugging.
Have you tried to run some synthetic benchmark like Cinebench and 3DMark to see if that behavior is replicated?

Thanks for quick reply all!

Just my main monitor has GSync available as is enabled, which is the only one i'm using in game. I will have another play but i believe it happens with gsync on and off.

My temperatures look good in HWMonitor, my CPU never goes over 65'c under load and no other alarming temps show in there. I cant see frequencies dropping on my CPU nor on my GPU, but i am a msi afterburner novice I may be missing something in there. The GPU temp limit shows as 81 and the GPU doesnt go over 75 so surely it wont throttle?

I've downloaded the 3DMark free version and it occurs on that also.

As for the resource hugging, i'm not really sure what it could be as task manager doesn't show anything obvious. In these games my CPU doesn't seem to go over 90 usage and my RAM has plenty available

For anyone still interested, I have resolved my issue.

Turned out to be the TV, even when turned off, was causing the issue/lag. Not sure if it related to the to the Hz or the ARC or perhaps too much resolution but unplugging it from the GPU has stopped the issue I described in all games.

Hope this helps someone and thanks for your replies
