Whats your budget is my question??,

For the best improvement i would recommend the processor and mobo, the reason is because the new processor is better at gaming the the built in graphics with Intel so try the APU, you'll see a big improvement if you need more power and have some money left over get a card to improve performance

You will need to upgrade your platform (CPU+motherboard) & add a graphics card to play games.
for 400$ you can build a decent gaming system but I would highly recommend saving up just a bit more to allow for a better upgrade.

You can recycle some parts from your old build, like the case, the screen, peripherals & possibly the power supply if it's decent enough.
Here is what I would recommend :

CPU AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black 3.2GHz Quad-Core .............$91.00

Motherboard Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+ ................................$84.99

Memory Patriot Gamer 2 Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 ......$47.98

Storage Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM ....................$55.01

Video Card HIS Radeon HD 7850 2GB .......................................$179.99

Power Supply Corsair 500W ATX12V ..........................................$49.99

Total.............................................................................................. $508.96

AMD just dropped their CPU prices, so the build is now slightly cheaper ^__^ .
