Hey guys, is it worth enabling the Avast plugin for Chrome? Avast is the only security software I use on my PC. Will the plugin make a big difference in security and will it slow down my internet speeds?

It will not slow down your actual internet bandwidth. However, depending on the specs of your system (esp if low-end), it could impact browser performance and system responsiveness.

The benefit of the plugin is that it'll flag known bad websites and help prevent you from going to an infected website or clicking on a bad link. It'll also give you a reputation rating (A series of "bars" like a wifi signal, with green good, orange/yellow as suspicious/unconfirmed, and red as oh shit you're fucked).

I have an i7 but I noticed that when I open a lot of tabs Chrome slows down

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Chrome is a memory hog, so your processor is only one of many pieces to the puzzle. How much RAM do you have? What is your boot drive? (SSD or HDD?) Do you have any other chrome plugins running? If so, how many, and which ones?

How many tabs do you open at once? What other programs are you using? Chrome is definitately a memory hog, and can slow down if you overload it with too many tabs and your system cant handle it. It's possible that your 8GB of RAM is insufficient. It's also possible that your Windows installation has gotten bloated or sluggish over time or that you're running too many background programs, etc.

In any case, I've answered your original question about Avast plugin. Yes it's good. No it won't really slow your system down.
