new monitor, not showing refresh rates

Hey guys and gals, I just picked up an msi mag272qr and I can't set the monitor to 144hz or 165 hz, they aren't showing up in nvidia control panel or display adapter settings. I can however set the monitor to 120 hz through custom resolution settings, but it doesn't show up under native resolutions. 144 and 165hz will work in the custom settings for testing but they wont save in the custom resolutions.

What I've done to try and remedy the problem:

 - DDU the video card drivers and monitor profiles

I have a GTX 680 4gb which I know wont play modern games at 144-165hz but I'd like to play older games at those refresh rates. It has enough bandwidth through display port, any ideas?

GTX 680 4gb

Intel i7 3770k @4.4ghz

16gb corsair dominator platinum 1866 ddr3

samsung evo 850 500gb

Have you set the refresh rate inside of Windows?

Do you mean display adapter settings when you right click on the desktop? If so, then yes.

I'm assuming you're talking about this menu?

What display cable are you using?

Yeah I've checked that menu, it shows 120hz after I set the custom resolution in nvidia control panel but I cant get 144hz or 165hz to save in custom settings so they wont even show in that menu or nvidia control panel.

EDIT: I'm using display port cable.
