External Display Issues

I,m trying to connect my monitor Viewsonic VX2458-MHD to my Omen Laptop using a MiniDP to DP cable. However the display says there is no signal and my laptop doesn't seem to detect it. However while using it over HDMI everything works flawlessly. I have done everything the internat suggested namely, checking connections, updating drivers, turning it off and on etc. I would appreciate any further suggestions.
