I'm struggling with connecting my  PSU to the CPU power on my motherboard.

My motherboard is ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F with an EATX12 port for CPU power. There are 8-pin ports on my modular PSU which are labelled 'CPU/PCI-E'. I only have 8-pin to 4+4pin connectors. The 8-pin end can go into either the PSU or the motherboard but only half of the 4+4pin end can go into the motherboard. The motherboard instruction manual says to use an 8-pin connector.

- Is my PSU incompatible, do I need a PSU that comes with an 8-pin to 8-pin connector?

- Is it just an issue of not having the right connector?

If anything is unclear I'll try and clarify, thanks in advance

If it fits it does not mean it can fit

The wiring is different

Make sure it's the eps connector

Usually it says cpu on it should fit

I'm confident that it is an EPS connector, it's listed in the manual as a EPS/ATX12V 8(4+4)-Pin.

It says CPU on both the 8-pin end and on each of the 4-pin connectors. It also says GQ on the 8-pin end.

Yes, the 8-pin is split into 4+4 but only one side fits into the port on the MB.

you have to make sure both sides of the 4pin are actually clipped together to form a single 8 pin block. that goes into the motherboard. make sure that the clip is facing the correct direction with respect to the ridge on the motherboard connector.  usually facing upward iirc.
