Canon Eos Webcam Beta

I downloaded the canon eos webcam beta software to use my Eos T7 camera (a supported device) and when i set it up through OBS, it shows the spot where the camera would go, but it doesnt show what the camera sees. it only says eos webcam utility beta. anyone have any experience using this?

update. i have the camera hooked up to a mini usb to usb 2.0 into my computer. i tried plugging it into usb 2.0 ports and 3.0 port both front pannel connections and mobo io ports with no luck
