I have a optiplex 750 mother board with an i5 3470 in it when ever i try to boot it up the cpu fan spins for 2 seconds then stops and repeats with no display the only way i can get it spin is by taking out the ram and ive tried different slots and sticks as well

Is it second hand or did you just buy it? because if you just bought it than you should have some warranty on it.

 

If you want to fix it yourself, then i would recommend resetting the bios. Its called clearing the CMOS. You can lookup online: „how to clear CMOS“. It‘s very easy to do and is one of the very few things you can do without a working operating system or bios. This might fix your problem.

You have an intel CPU. The 3rd gen problem is only an issue with ryzen CPUs. Or does your compatibility problem concern something other than the CPU? I just dont want you to buy something and then find out its still not working 🥴
 

Edit: after further research i did discover 3rd gen motherboard compatibility complications with intel. I have never heard of this before! I’m glad you found the solution to your problem. Thank you for teaching me something! 😅 one learns something new everyday...
