New build, adding two drives.

So its just a matter of getting a 256gb OS drive, then another 2tb ssd for programs / games and going into bios and changing boot order for 1) OS | 2) 2tb right?

And does the 2tb need the same OS installed on it, is that right?

 

20 years ago I don't remember it being like that from my builds (with an OS on the 2nd drive). Guess the years have alt | deleted some stuff

Hmm. So how do you install programs and games on it to load those programs? 

 

What I was wanting to do is have the 256 for the OS, then when installing games etc. those just go the the big drive. 

OR damn, is the 2nd drive only capable of just storing them, not installing them?

You just select the drive you want to install the programms on in the installation process and in steam you can set the installation / storage path in the config e.G.

You install the OS in the first drive.

You boot and run the OS from the first drive.

After that, you will be able to access the storage space of the second drive, where you can install programs and store whatever you want.

 

Of course, if the program that is installed in the second hard drive needs resources (e.g. a library) stored on the OS drive, it will load them from there (and can theoretically have performance benefits from that).

 

After all if you think about it, you will probably agree with me when I say that installing the same OS on the first and second hard drive renders the first basically useless.
