Is there any point in supersampling, will it actually give a noticeable visual difference in game?

That is something you will need to decide for yourself whether it is worth the performance drop for better, clearer visuals. This also depends on the game engine and how it utilizes supersampling.

Da Rig : Mobo: Asus M5A97-r2.0 | Cpu: FX-8320 (4.1ghz) Stock cooler | Gpu: Sapphire R9 290 | RAM: 16GB Patriot Intel Extreme (1600mhz...for now >:]) | PSU: Antec 620w continuous | SSD: Corsair Force 60gb (boot) | HDD: WD 500GB 7200rpm  WD Blue 1TB | OS: WIndows 7 Ultimate 64-bit |

You could say its use is mainly for games that have no antialiasing available to use in game,.. older games that look blocky (or not) can be a little sharper to the eye and still be maintaining a nice frame rate on your newer geared machine, newer games you'll be fine with normal MSAA or alternatives or that effect but not supersampling, 1080p with 2x Supersampling is a 4K image.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
