So before I Jump into the topic ill give my specs.

PSU 1000w Thermaltake 80 gold plus

CPU 3900x

Motherboard ASUS Crosshair Hero VIII(WIFI) Latest Bios Installed

GPU EVGA 2080TI K|ngP|n

Memory 3600 G.Skill Trident

Enermax 360 Liquid Cooler

So for a while now Ive had my 3900x overclocked to 4.475 1 core and the other cores clocked to 4.3.  Vcore is at 1.35 but during load drops to 1.32 and has been working fine for quite a while now. Cinebench, cpuz, gaming have all worked without a hiccup.  About a week ago I downloaded blender and constantly crash with an overheat error.  I downloaded the blender benchmark tool and using hwinfo64 I checked all temps.  CPU temps do not go past 75 and the cpu package is always 10c higher so 85 is max temp there, but I still get a crash. Is it possible that hwinfo64 is displaying correct temps, or is it possible that im not running enough voltage so it throws an error.  Just trying to figure this out.  I can go to 4.5 and it seems to work but ill get a random crash here in there?

Look again with HWMonitor. Other than that, set your cpu back to stock and see if it crashes then too. Otherwise your overclock is simply unstable. Another way to check is using OCCT with large datasets.

Went back to stock and no issues.  Loaded up the profile again and adjusted the fan curves to boost up a little more and now it seems stable after doing back to back blender benchmarks. The temps never went past 73C, but i did notice that my vcore doesn't seem stable.  even though i set to to 1.35 it idles arround 1.32 and when I benchmark it drops to 1.304 even though I have the loadline at its highest settings.  Could a bad PSU cause this instability when overclocking where its not really overheating but the vdroop causes sometype of error to crash the pc?

Temperature is just one factor for an unstable overclocking. There are many other factors that could make your system crush even maintaining considerably low temp. I would double check the temp with another software but there is very little chance HWinfo64 would report incorrect temp.

I ended up figuring out the issue.  I did not realize that I had two ccx at 4.475 instead of one.  Im input the correct values and everything seems to be working correctly again.  Still weird that a temp issue was thrown when HWinfo64 Shows max temp at 75.  Ive been pretty confused as what temp to really look at though.  While my CPU temp is 75 my CPU package temps are always 10c higher which means that had a high of 87c.  Not sure if that's what I should be looking at.  I added a push pull config on my radiator now and temps don't go past 66c.  I did double check temp using my asus AI app and that shows the same exact temp as HWINFO64
