I inherited a Powerspec 1510 gaming laptop from a friend. It’s about two and a half years old. When I try and boot it up in discrete mode it turns on and runs but the screen remains black. Sometimes it will turn on and run fine, I can game without issues. Other times after being on for several hours the screen will go black and it won’t turn back on again. If I start the laptop up in hybrid mode, the laptop runs without any issues at all, but I can’t game properly. I can run Overwatch on the lowest settings with hybrid mode but that’s about it. I’ve been told my GPU might be failing and that’s why sometimes the screen turns on but then later turns off. The issue has been ongoing for about a year now, it’s just that the laptop was not in use for most of that time. No previous issues or repairs with the laptop, only the battery has been replaced. I’m not sure if there’s anything I could do from home to fix the issue. Any advice? I also realized that device manager is not showing my Nvidia driver (Nvidia GTX 1070) it’s appearing as hidden. Aside from that when I try and update the GeForce game ready driver it says my version of Windows is not compatible even though I’m running version 1909. I’ve googled results but I’m really not sure what could be happening. I could really use the help!

I have the same laptop and had very few hours on it  over about year or so all of a sudden the GPU would not work. I can’t get any Nvidia drivers to install as it can’t find the gtx1070. I think only the intel graphics work on it now. I’m really annoyed. I bought the 15 inch over the 17 inch because reviews said the 15 had better cooling, looks like it didn’t matter and it died quickly anyway. $1300 down the drain. My brother’s Alienware had overheating issues as well. My advice is don’t bother with a gaming laptop, if you do try to get an extended warranty to cover you when it inevitably dies from overheating.
