Helping a friend spec a rig for his friend. How does this look? Budget was $1000, but he wanted full-loop custom water cooling, so the roof was lifted a bit.

What do you guys think? (Pcpartpicker doesn't show the liquid cooling kit A240R - https://www.newegg.com/p/37B-000B-001T8)

Full loop water cooling on that?  Dump the cooling and use it all to get a decent rig.  A VEGA 56 is a horrible purchase.

RAM should be 3600MHz.  250GB SSD is all?

Have a long talk with your friend.

Quite a bit of money wasted in that spec.

You could get a 3700X, 32GB Ram and a bigger SSD.

A bit more than your list, but the Corsair Ram in your spec has no price listed.

You can still drop back down to 16GB on the Ram if you want.

Is this going to be a gaming pc ?

You don't HAVE to spend all the money.  Forcing a 3700X? Why?  How did a $1000 budget get up to $1400 already?

Seriously, a 3600 + 5700XT balanced build (without a stupid aftermaket cooler) will be awesome.

The Windows for $106.99 really gets me, WTACTUALF?

Why not a 3700X ? It's not like the build I posted costs any more than what the op posted.

Only other option for windows is to buy a cheap key. A bit of a grey area, so up to the op on that.

Because the 3700X doesn't game better than the 3600.  But you're right, I was speaking to the OP about the pricing.  I can't fault you for following his lead.  For your build I'd lose Windows and put that toward a 2070 Super or more SSD love is all.

I agree that the 3600 is better value if just gaming. If he doesn't want the hassle of upgrading the cpu anytime soon then a 3700X should still fit into a $1000 budget with a bit of tweaking.

I would say that the 5700XT is better from a price/performance point of view. It might be a bit slower than the 2070S but it saves around $100. I already put a bigger SSD in the spec above anyway 😎

I would buy a cheap key if it was me, but not everyone feels happy doing that.
