Harddrive weird noise (attached) and not detected in BIOS

MayankVallah

I have this harddrive from 2014 and it was working fine a few weeks ago, I was using it normally and it showed no signs of slowdown or anything. I also put it on defragment but I cancelled it after 8 passes since it was taking too much time.

After that, it refused to work. Whenever I connect it to my computer, the computer freezes on bios logo and when I press del to enter the bios menu, it does so after almost a minute. Then I checked and it's not detected in bios. I put it in another computer and it showed unknown device in device manager.

When I start the harddrive, there's now a grinding noise. I recorded it on my phone. Please tell me what's wrong with this and is the data safe? I can get it to a recovery expert but because of the virus, I may have to wait till the year end.

Is there a way to fix it by myself?
