Ok I have an older laptop, a HP 15-af039ca, running win 10 64bit. The built in realtek wireless network only ran on the 2.4ghz range but I have 5g in my house. I am only getting max 50Mbps DL / 16Mbps UP plugged in and on wifi 13Mbps DL but still 16Mbps UP. So I went and got a Asus ac53 nano wifi adapter and set it up to run on the 5g freq but for some reason I am getting even worse wifi speed after doing so. Oh and btw I have 300 internet from shaw. HELP pls?????

What I don't understand about the ASUS AC53-Nano (AC-1200) is that it claims to have a theoretical maximum of 867Mbps on wireless-AC, but it's a USB 2.0 device! USB 2.0, last time I checked, was limited to 480Mbps. Why does this thing even exist?

Anyway, your internet speed won't be able to saturate the USB 2.0 connection of the adapter, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I need you to be very clear on the speed units you're using. Mbps is not the same as MBps. What does Shaw promise you? What speeds are you getting when you run a speed test at DSLReports/SpeedTest.net while directly wired into the router/gateway?

And what device is distributing internet into your house from your ISP? Is it a wireless device supplied by Shaw or your own wireless router connected to Shaw's device?

The internet comes into the house through a modem/router from Shaw. Its rated in Mbps. When using the on board network adapter the wifi reported as 13Mbps and wired only came in at max 50 Mbps as download speeds and a constant of 16Mbps for upload on both connections and this was tested on Ookla. Shaw promises 300Mbps. My cell phone pull in just under that when connected to the home wifi.

What is the make and model of this device?

What kind of ethernet cable are you using? CAT5e or better? Is the ethernet link detected as gigabit? Does your laptop NIC support 10/100/1000Mbps?

So your phone achieves close to full speed using the WiFi on the Shaw device?
