building something with an API help

Hey guys so I'm just learning to code in Javascript and APIs and how it all works. I want to practice but idk where to start? Does anyone have any recommendations or can point me towards a free API that would be "fun" to work with as my first project?

What do you know about JS as is?

I'd call it the basics in the sense that I've already worked with a weather API  that would pull the weather forecast via node.js but my hand was held by the course. I want to try one from scratch. I'm sorry I dont know how to be more specific as to what I know but I've been over the following; Loops, arrays, arrays, the dom, ajax basics, node, conditionals, fetch, get.
