PWR Header on MOBO

Hey guys i searched the webs for info on this but nothing really cleared it for me, maybe you guys can help. I have an ASUS P8P67 LE motherboard, that has only 2 Chassis Fan Headers. Right next to the CPU Fan Header, the board has a PWR_Fan Header, that i know it is for connecting the PSU Fan, if the PSU has that option.

However, mine doesn't, and i wonder if i can connect a Fan, any Chassis Fan, to that header.

Strange. How many pins is it? My first guess is that it would only have the rpm control since it would be kind of backwards to pull power from the mobo to power a PSU fan.

should be able to, i have a 200mm fan conected to mine

It has 3 pins...both Chassis Fan headers are 4 pin.

It's a fan header. Why wouldn't you be able to connect a fan to it? Though you should just run your fans off molex.

PWR=Power, so this would be a simple 3-pin monitored powered header.

Every search i made explained that that header is to connect the PSU fan, if the PSU has that option. There is always a lot of confusion about connecting other fans to it though...my first instinct was to think it was ok, but you never know, so i decided to ask here :) Thanks for you reply!

they havent connected PSU fans to the motherboard in over ten years... and now with corsair i-series its back (via USB)!

You can connect any fan you like to that header.

You can connect any fan you like to that header.

You can connect any fan you like to that header.

I believe the PWR header always runs at 100% however, at least on my p67 sabertooth.

You can connect any fan you like to that header.
