please help in software update

I have a samsung s8+  its an at't version running android 7 they haven't updated it since the launch can i install a verison version of android 9 on it ?

I fear it will brick the phone

Is it possible? Probably, might even be successful. Honestly though, I wouldn't bother updating if the phone otherwise works fine. If you're truly worried about being out of date, I'd get a new phone.
