Hey, i have a  bunch of questions refering to my CPU and/or GPU. My current GPU is "Gigabyte 1050 Ti G1 Gaming" and my CPU is a "Intel i5 7600k". And i often run the new games at low-medium. I wanted to know which one i should consider upgrading first. The GPU or the CPU, i have a budget of 550, which can be an Intel i7 9700k or a Nvidia RTX 2070 Super Founder's Edition. I have considered both, but i don't know which one is more important towards gaming and better graphics/FPS.

My full pc parts are: Corsair Carbide Series 400C (case), Z270X-Ultra Gaming (motherboard), Gigabyte GTX1050 Ti G1 Gaming (GPU), Intel Core i5 7600k (CPU), Corsair Vengeance LPX 16gb(2x8) 3000mhz (Ram), Corsair CS650M (PSU), Corsair H60 (CPU Cooler), Corsair NVMe M.2 MP500 128gb (M.2 SSD)

Gpu, hands down

cpu is aging, especially today with the leaps and bounds made By amd, but every dollar towards a better gpu is 10x more valuable

Do you think i should consider switching to AMD graphic card?

The best advice I can give for buying a GPU is to get the most expensive card you can afford. Don't get more than what you can afford.

AMD cards are an okay value, they do lack the amazing encoders that nvidia cards have, but for gaming they do scale in terms of price at this time.

(all advice given with the belief that you're spending $200+)

I posted something similar earlier, but as somebody who’s got an i5 6600k (@4.5GHz) and was just in that same dilemma a few days ago. I can assure you that a new video card is the way to go if you want higher frame rates and be able to max out the game settings.

The i5 6600K and your 7600K’s are starting to show their age in certain games due to lack of cores, so don’t expect to score the same on benchmarks as people with better CPU’s. But as far as gaming goes, the difference won’t be that noticeable to the eye. Even on CPU heavy games, yes it probably limits my FPS a bit (10 to 30 FPS or something like that compared to the newer stuff), but you’ll still be getting a smooth 100+ FPS experience so who cares. And the higher the resolution, the less the CPU impacts frames compared to the better CPU’s.

Going from a GtX 970 to a 2060s more or less doubled my frame rate and allowed me to go from medium/high settings to maxing out every game.

Oh and if your CPU isn’t overclocked, you might want to consider doing so. It’s essentially a free boost in performance and those chips can handle quite a bit. Just going from stock speed to like 4.5 or 4.6GHz will probably boost your FPS close to 10 frames (or more) in most games
