This is actually for my husband. He is building a PC. He has a Gigabyte designare x399 mother board. A d a EVGA 750w PSU. Are these compatible? He said the board has a 24 pin connector, 4 pin, and 8 pin. But that he doesn't have cables from the PSU for all. Do they all have to be connected?

You didn't tell us the specific PSU model.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

An EVGA N1, the crappiest power supply that they make.

Compatible? Yes. Disaster waiting to happen? Also yes.

Make sure you quote us so we can see your responses.

Ok correction.....he said he needs to know if the 8 pin and 4 pin have to both be used. He only has an 8 pin connector.

use the quote button, or @Fasauceome, so that I get a notification.

Can you share a parts list? most cases won't benefit from the extra 4 pin connector, but if he's going whole hog with the 3990X it would be helpful.

He bought a several hundred dollar motherboard for gaming only? Does he also do professional video editing work or 3D modeling or something?

Dont really see what it matters but gaming is what he is focusing on at the moment.

But more to the point, will everything work without the extra 4pin connector?

you really should not use that power supply if you want this PC to last.

Yes, like I said, before, technically it will work, it is compatible. But the motherboard was a huge waste of money, and so was the CPU, if it's just for a gaming PC, and if it's paired with that power supply.

a PSU that doesn't even meet 80+, has it's 12v and 5v rail regulated together and has no UVP against voltage drops

this is just asking for problems and putting hardware on the line just because you don't want to buy a 100 dollar or so PSU

your hardware, your risk

but I wouldn't
