Screen randomly goes black momentarily when using PC

System Specs:

Ryzen 7 2700x (overclocked to 4.050 ghz using Asus AI suite auto-overclocking utility) Running around 50 degrees idle and 67-71 during gameplay

Asus B450-F ROG Strix mobo

Asus GTX 1060 6G Dual - Running around 44 degrees idle and 70-75 during gameplay.  Using GPU Tweak "Gaming" setting which OC's to 1824Mhz

Corsair HX Series CMPSU-620HX

Windows 10 home edition 64 bit

ASUS ROG Strix XG27VQ 27 monitor connected via Display Port

Note: I also have a HDMI cabled connected to the monitor that is not connected to a device, the cable lays on the desk for when I connect my Laptop

This past Friday I upgraded my old FX8320 black system to a new mother board and chip.

I ended up having to re-install windows to get the system to boot properly so spent the weekend re-installing all of my games.

Every since the system has been back online during any use I will get momentary black screens and it seems to get worse the longer it stays on.  They will only last for a second or 2, and then the image will pop back up.

During this time if I'm playing a game my game is still running and I can still move and hear the footsteps through my headset/speakers.

What I have tried:

Verifying that all of my GPU/Monitor/Windows drivers are up to date.  I have not uninstalled any drivers and re-installed them but I'm going to try that first thing when I get home from work.

I have ordered another Display Port cable from Amazon to see if maybe that is the problem, but that seems unlikely.

Using GPU Tweak I have ran the "Boost" utility to kill all non essential windows services before I launch games, this does not seem to make any difference.

I also changed the refresh rate on the Windows display setting to 144.  It was previously set at 60.

My power supply is fairly old, it's been through 3 different iterations of mobo/cpu/gpu combinations but I don't think I'm anywhere near the 620 watts and it doesn't seem to have any issues.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That gpu looks on the warm side of things...can you try un-OC-ing it and give it a whirl ?  Also, you got the gpu fans at 100% from the get go ?  With my fans at 50% up to 35C...and at 100% by 45C...my Nvidia idles in between mid-20's to mid-30's depending on how cold/warm the room is...while running full tilt, with max OC, it still never exceeds mid-60's...that's at 2,062Mhz.

So my 1060 has always run hot.  The factory fan settings don't spin the fans up until the card gets to like 50 degrees.  When I turn the fans up the temps come down considerably, but the "Target temp" on the GPU Tweak is set from the factory at 80 degrees so I assumed I was within reason.

I will try running it without being OC'd though and report back.

I had this issue with my monitor using freesync with a nvidia gpu when they introduced the gsync compatibility. You could try checking to see if those options are on as both freesync and Gsync compatibility mode can cause the issue you are describing and turning them off assisted me.

The hdmi cable is at fault... I have the same problem, screen goes black then recovers after a second or two. This has happened to me with both an r9 290 and gtx 980ti so no bias torwards any gpu maker for this problem. The monitor (tv) is also fine. New hdmi cables lasted me 4, 3 and 6 months respectivelly before the problem reappeared.

(Offtopic) Also for the system running kinda hot I blame airflow. 1060 are cool cards, and a 1060 can't heat up an 8 core that much in gaming loads (assuming worst case scenario for the cpu aka running the stock cooler) BTW disable that motherboard auto oc and let the cpu do it's thing. X skus don't need external help for clocks.

I'd still, for giggles, crank the fan up to 100% from startup...just to see if it's a temp issue.  Do you have MSI Afterburner installed ?  It will let you control fan speeds.

So I took the OC off and adjusted the cooling as seen below.

After about 15 minutes of playing I was at 56C on the GPU and 52C on the CPU.

In that 15 minutes of playing I did not have any black screens.  However as soon as I closed the game and got back to windows I had a few in the span of a few minutes.

I uninstalled the AI tuner from ASUS and put everything back on Auto.  I have a older Lian Li case with tiny little 80mm fans and I'm using the stock Wraith cooler that came with the 2700x.  I'm sure the airflow is part of the problem but I already have all of the case fans running wide open.

The fact you have your fan set to 0% while the PC is turned on and below 30C is a bit alarming.  I'd get more aggressive on the fan...I'd keep it at 50% from 0C (PC startup effectively) thru 35C...no reason in having your GPU get heat soaked for nothing....think she might last longer too.  Then by 45C have it at 100%...cause surely it will never hit 45C unless you are playing games, right?  Staying ahead of the temp spikes is a good way to keep things cool and happy.  You might even be able to re-enable the OC with reliable results.

If the noise is an issue...just turn up the music or game volume.

Try turn off ASCR (ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio) from monitor settings.

Yes, I encountered the same problem while watching movies on Netflix and similar sites, towards the end of the movie when there is too much blackout in the video, my screen turns off completely, ignoring even the mouse pointer and the progress bar of the movie, causing the screen to turn off completely. I could turn the screen back on by pressing the ESC or Windows key. [Model: ASUS VG245Q]
