It all boils down to budget.

Good Battery Life, Performance and Portability together are very expensive. I will divide your options into two main groups:

CPU Intensive

Dell XPS 15 with the exact config and then upgrade the RAM to 16GB or 32GB as per load.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 7 - Black

LG Gram 17

CPU + GPU Intensive

Razer Blade 15

Razer Blade Pro 17

These are incredible-y..........expensive. Buy them only if really, really, really can. Let's be more reasonable and look at something under $1000 US (again, sorry).

Acer Swift 3 this isn't an affiliate link

Asus VIvoBook S14

These are no where as Powerful as the others, but they are Portable.

If you want more Power(I am talking GPU power) than Portability, then Gaming Laptops should be your go to. These don't have tons of Battery Life, but in this price point we have to compromise for performance.

Acer Predator Helios 300 a little over budget, but i think you can see the motive of me recommending this.

Lenovo Legion Y540 This is more in budget and offers identical specs but it has a few downfall. I recommend this video by Dave2D. He did a great comparison on which one to buy. Also, this looks more professional. Since you will be doing your Masters, I don't want you to look weird among your peers.

Another reference material will be this video comparing the latter 2 gaming laptops.

I hope I could help you figure out what you are looking for and best of luck for your masters.
