Consensus on "overclocking" refresh rates?

So, I've three LG 27" 4K IPS monitors... stunning image quality except they run at 60hz. They were also a bit on the expensive side and so I'd rather not ruin them :)  That said, is there a consensus on safely overdriving such monitors to say, 75 or 90hz? Is it worth the risk? Are there any "best practices" for doing so?
