I am looking to move the components I have now to a bigger case with new GPU and PSU. I want to upgrade to a Radeon RX 580. I am not sure which PSU to use and I am wondering if Radeon RX 580 is compatible with the other current components.

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs)

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 720

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (x4)  DDR3

PSU: 250W

Motherboard: Not sure, but it's a Dell board

Also has a Seagate HDD and I'm not sure about the SSD

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Any gpu should be compatible with any pcie express slot.

In terms of psu, aim for abt. 450w. any cheap 80+ bronze should be no problem. Just read reviews on what ever you find.

At me or quote me, I want to hear your opinion.

Hopefully anything I say is factually correct. Sorry for any mistakes in advanced.

This may be an issue as some Dell motherboards use non-standard power connectors.

Does it have a 24pin motherboard power connector?

You can find out your computer motherboard model under "System Information". You can do a search on the Start menu for "System Information" or type "msinfo32.exe" from the Run dialog box to open it. Then go to the "System Summary" section and look for "System Model" on the main page, this usually works. Or alternatively type in CMD this:

  • wmic csproduct get name,identifyingnumber,uuid

A third-party option that I like is Belarc, it generates a web page when it completes the scan. From that web page, you can find your motherboard model in the "System model" section. (Not always works): https://www.belarc.com/en/
