PC shuts down on certain games.

After about 10 or so minutes of playing smite the pc will completely shut off, this also happens on LoL randomly (could take a few games or not at all), Resi 2 remake runs fine, paladins works fine. Just to name a few. When i went to switch the PSU off, a spark came off it. so is this indicating a faulty PSU ?

 

also my 1TB hdd randomly decides when it wants to work, (won't come up on my pc and various shortcuts won't work associated with that drive.) i will have to keep restarting my pc until it shows.

550w psu (not sure brand)

This may be the psu. Will be really helpful to know the brand, model and also age of this psu. 
Other things which you may want to check is the temps of the system, use something like HWinfo64 to monitor temps of cpu and gpu. You have quite old cpu , did you ever changed thermal paste?

Last it may be the drivers, may be worth ddu all drivers and reinstalling them.
