Hey Team,

I have a problem with a mates Asus Direct CU II HD 7850. A couple of days ago we gave his aging computer (i7 2600, 3gb Ram :o) an upgrade, with a SSD and extra ram. While we were there we cleaned the entire thing out as it had a ton of dust, and re-pasted the CPU and GPU.

The problem lies with the GPU, after re-pasting it and putting it back into the system (First with no OS then with a fresh W7 Pro on the SSD), the rear fan is jacked to %100 while the front seems to be running normal. It's extremely loud and also isn't good to be running at %100 24/7. I've tried new drivers, new OS installs, third party software to change the fan speed but nothing helps.

I've got no clue what's going on!!!

Any ideas?

Cheers

It sounds like a PWM issue are the fan connectors plugged into the gpu all the way.

The thermal paste is fine, the temps are at around 24 C idle, and it does it right on startup with 0 delay. As for the fan connector that's what I was thinking also, but they seem to be on fine

does your card monitor other temperatures besides the core? check GPU-z sensors and see if maybe one of VRMs is not getting cooled corectly some times those thermal pads don't like being reused.

System CPU : Ryzen 9 5950 doing whatever PBO lets it. Motherboard : Asus B550 Wifi II RAM 80GB 3600 CL 18 2x 32GB 2x 8GB GPUs Vega 56 & Tesla M40 Corsair 4000D Storage: many and varied small (512GB-1TB) SSD + 5TB WD Green PSU 1000W EVGA GOLD
