Dead motherboard

Hello!

I have the computer in my signature for about 14 month, everything was running just fine and i didn't plug the extra 4 pin for the Cpu power, i had plugged in only the 8 pin connector(the psu was the Corsair CS 650 M).

During this period i was adding some stuff, like extra fans all RGB, 8 in total, 2 for the cpu and 6 in the case, i added a rgb led strip 60cm, a rgb mouse pad, i have 2 HDD, 2 SSD and the m2 mvne with the OS.

4 days ago as i was surfing, pretty much at idle the pc stopped like you turn the psu of with a buzzer sound for 3 seconds.

I ordered a new psu, the Seasonic focus plus 750w gold and i wait for it to arrive to pu it all together ( don't want to risk plugging the old psu, 

although i brought it to a shop and they told me it is working.

I would appreciate any help troubleshooting this issue!!

Do you mean the old psu is working? 
I’m a bit lost in here with what you need help.

Yes the old psu from what the technician told me it is working, how did the motherboard died without leaving any trace?

Well it’s possible your mobo died just like that, maybe some capacitor just blow and that’s it. 
Did you test it already with new psu?

The new PSU hasn't arrived yet, i will get it probably today or tomorrow.

Why would you randomly order parts without diagnosing the PC first? That's a strange way to troubleshoot.

 

Have you tried simply reseting the bios (clearing the cmos)?

The motherboard is completely dead, i brought it to a local computer store, i was there present the board is fried and yesterday they replaced it with a brand new one,  as it was in the warranty

So you need new mobo not psu

Do you suspect the psu of causing the death of the mainboard?

Well this is my first guess.....

As the motherboard have 2 cpu connectors, one 8 pin and a second 4 pin that i didn't connect (all the threads were saying that the 4 pin is not needed).

I can't think of anything else to kill the motherboard out of nowhere.....

EDIT: i had a normal OC to 5Ghz leaving the voltage to auto, it never went higher than 1.25v ish

It's a weird position for the extra 4pin. Usually I would think it is designed to support the PCIe-slots when you are going to use more than one high-end graphics card. I would have to measure it thoroughly to be sure, though.

But even if it would be designed for the cpu-connector, it should be more than enough for the 9700k with 'only' 8pin cpu-power. Much more likely is that one of the (cheap?) vrms did die and it would also have died with 12pins connected. I suspect the cooling on the vrms to be just sufficient enough to suit normal use.

Did you check if the other components are alive and well?

Yes, except the GPU, do you think it might be effected too?

It is unlikely. And since everything else is doing fine I'd like to clear the psu from the list of suspects - if it would have had a surge it surely would have done damage to other components as well.
