reinstall the o.s,if you dont have any problem with it.that might solve this.

and, when did u installed  your current running o.s,and when this error started to appear?

If I reinstall the OS, will I lose any data?

I installed the Win8 when I first built this PC, about a month ago.

I've been having random shutdowns since I built the PC, I've only just managed to identify it using Event Logging.

this is not necessarily a problem in you os. It might as well be a not correctly operating driver, likely audio or graphics drivers. Weiredly i had the same kind of shut downs and it seemed to be caused by chrome...

How would I check if a driver is broken and possibly fix a broken driver?

that is a beautiful question and to be honest it is a pain in the ass! there are some tools you can google for also by microsoft i think, but maybe it would help if you just clean all drivers, like audio and video and reinstall
