so i was watching linus s videos on egpu through tb3, and i see that there is not enough bandwidth for a 1080 or 2080. the benchmarks show that there is a 20% decrease in perfomance. so what i was thinking is if a 1080/2080 needs to much bandwidth why not use a 1060/1660 that requires less bandwidth and so it should lose less in performance. i could also be wrong. why would there be a performance hit with a lower bandwidth card.

There may still be a performance hit, but it won't likely be as much as with a higher end card.

There's more to it than just a bandwidth limitation, latency is also a factor. And even with less graphical horsepower, there's not a linear correlation of bandwidth usage, so the 1660 would still be a bit choked by x4. Any time an eGPU solution is implemented, there is a performance hit, so don't expect a lossless experience regardless.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

ok so would an egpu 1660ti/2060 be worth it over a 1060 mobile.

The 2060, maybe. An eGPU is pretty expensive so the value proposition isn't great.
