So Im building a new rig and I ran into some major RAM stability issues. First I noticed Chrome acting strange, then data corruption. Therefore I ran the AIDA64 RAM stability test and it failed in the first minute. I have 4x8GB of 3200 DDR4 Patriot Viper 16-18-18-36 RAM sticks so I decides to troubleshoot the sticks in pairs. I took the first 2x8GB pair and ran a 30-minute (I will run a full 12h test after I solve this issue) AIDA64 stability test again and it passed. I took the second pair of 2x8GB and it failed in the first two minutes. So the issue must be in one or more of those two RAM sticks in that pair. To be 100% certain that the problem lies in RAM only and not the MB, I decided to put the first pair that passed the AIDA64 test in different DIMM slots (not optimal ones) than before. I ran into another issue. I couldnt configure them to boot up in 3200, 16-18-18-36, only in 2133, 15-15-15-36. Now my question is... Is it normal that the MB doesnt allow "overclocking" (setting to actual frequency values this RAM should run at through a-XMP) 2 sticks of RAM if they are not put in the optimised DIMM slots? Or is it another issue and the faulty RAM isnt all thats wrong here? I ran AIDA64 anyway (on that 2133) and the config came out stable after 30 minutes.

I will test individial RAM sticks in that faulty pair now. I will update this post after I do so.

CPU: R9 3900x

MB: msi x570 Gaming Plus

RAM: Patriot Viper 3200 4*8GB

GPU and PSU irrelevant. Cooling is sufficient.

Clear CMOS if that happens, sometimes settings get stuck.
