BSOD after RAM re-insertion?

Yesterday, for a separate matter on this forum, I first took out one of my RAM sticks before turning on my desktop PC, no problems then. Afterwards, I re-inserted the stick. For a few hours, it worked just fine, before it restarted by itself and suddenly kept giving me BSODs telling me 'the kernel is missing or contains errors'. What's causing this?
