Steam Remote Play

So Steam Link is NOT just the mechanism for pairing, but a physical device?

Yeah, you're trying to pair a Steam Link - the device. I forget how you stream from PC to PC. When I last tryed it I just clicked on the game in my library (installed on my main PC but not on the secondary I was using) and could hit "stream from [PC Name]". You have Remote Play on, try clicking the little drop-down arrow next to the play button on your laptop and see if it lets you choose to stream from the main rig.

I have two PCs, a desktop and a laptop. The desktop is the powerhouse and has all my games installed. The laptop is powerful but no where near what my desktop can do. I wish to play a heavily modded Skyrim on my laptop but can't find all the mods that I originally had on my desktop to install, so switching between different saves has become a nightmare. When I saw the option for Remote Play in the Settings, I thought this might be an answer my question. I can simply stream the title from my desktop where all the mods are installed to my laptop without having to worry about which mod is installed and in which order. Right?

All the support forums paint this is as easy but I'm having issues. Apparently I have to authorize my PCs via some kind of Steam link code, but nothing shows up when I attempt to pair them. I've tried pairing from both systems and unpairing them as well. Anyone have experience getting this set up? Is what I'm attempting feasible with this setting? I got a couple screenshots of what I'm attempting to do.

You're trying to pair a steam link, not another PC. There may be a client for that? My Raspberry Pi4 can install the software and Steam sees it as a Steam Link, IDK if there's an option for that on windows or not though. I would assume there is.

Also keep in mind you probably need to be on ethernet on both devices, it's much stabler/higher bandwidth.

Holy shit, that's exactly what I was trying to do! Do you know if it works if you're on two separate networks? Like I take my laptop to work and would like to play on my breaks.

I've never tried that, but I think it'd be pretty horrible. Even on my own Wifi network the Pi was h o r r i b l e (to be fair it doesn't have a mindblowingly good wifi card though, it's a $50 device or so), on ethernet it's solid af though.

Ok thanks man, I'll give it a try when I go to work tonight. Thanks!
