Hi guys, my build currently has a threadripper 2990wx on an MSI X399 sli plus with 128gb of corsair vengeance lpx 3200mhz C16.

I'm only using an asus rx vega 56 8gb as the gpu cuz I don't really need a powerful one.

My current ssd is the samsung 970 pro 1tb and with the new pcie 4.0 coming out I wanna know if it's better to upgrade cpu, motherboard, ssd (and possibly ram if it has a huge performance impact on the cpu performance) to a 3rd gen threadripper and a much faster ssd or if it is possible to make an other build with much cheaper components that could help me out.

I'm all about speed and the work I use this pc for makes the cpu and ssd get to 100% almost all the time and uses almost all the ram available so basically I thought the ssd might be a bottleneck here and if it's possible to make an other build with, say, a 3700x with a pcie 4.0 ssd for storage, then connect these two and (theoretically) use the higher speed ssd for my main pc without having to upgrade it all.

I work on a software called faro scene if that's needed too and the cpu is watercooled with an nzxt kraken x72, the psu is the corsair rm1000i.

Thanks.

There's no fully tested PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs, so I'd suggest you use safer route and stay on what you have rn. That drop in CPU perfomance isn't worth it.
